The Rotary Club of Koh Samui (ROCKS)
Wat Jaeng School Project.
One of the ROCKS current projects is the government school in Nathon, Wat Jaeng School. The school, one of the oldest in Samui, is in dire need of help, especially during heavy rains which flood classrooms. The new building, at the time of printing, is almost complete, and new desks, teachers' tables, filing cabinets and whiteboards are also being purchased for the school. As the whole project comes to over 700,000 baht, Rotary (and obviously the school) would welcome any help and/or contributions to get the work completed. The funds gathered by ROCKS are, as most people know, carefully recorded & monitored, and accounts are available to be seen for this and any other project. Individual donations are correctly noted and attributed, and YOU can make a difference by supporting this project.
Oktoberfest
ROCKS annual celebration will be held this year during the weekend of 7th-8th of October. Food, music and a large amount of beer will be part of the festivities held at Long Beach Resort in Chaweng (opposite MacDonalds) and entrance is free. Please join us and help put the FUN back into Fundraising!
Centennial Park Project
After 3 years of trying to get permission from local government to give the park at Namuang a facelift, Rotary finally succeeded this year, and after many meeting with the Mayor of Koh Samui, the project went ahead at last.
The perimeter fence was primed and painted and now looks visibly different.
A big thank you to Rotarian and non-Rotarian volunteers who got this job accomplished!
Skills For Life.
Under the excellent guidance of Rotarian Lorraine Clark, this project is designed to provide a Careers Training Programme that can be delivered at a local level to enable its participants to gain skills that they can use in employment and in everyday life. Students prior to leaving school will be offered 'apprenticeships' in local businesses with a view to providing comprehensive training/qualifications, and with the ultimate goal of being permanently employed.
Kids' Weekend.
One of Rotary's most rewarding projects, this annual event will be held in November. 30 or more orphaned children from Father Joe's Mercy Centre in Bangkok come to Samui for a long weekend of fun, food and parties, and it's hard to tell who gets more out of the weekend - the kids or the grown-ups!
Last year, several of Samui's other organisations, including the SCC, the SOS, Ex-pats and Network Samui, joined us with donations and volunteers to help make this a very special occasion for the children.
