Project title: "FOR YOUR EYES ONLY".
A cataract is a clouding or darkening that develops in the normally clear lens of the eye. This prevents the lens from properly focusing light on the retina at the back of the eye, resulting in a loss of vision. A cataract is not a film that grows over the surface of the eye. A cataract may be associated with certain diseases, medicines, or normal aging.
The Rotary Club of Pattaya is organizing a project to provide free operations to children with Cataract. The operations cost between Baht 15,000 & Baht 20,000. We have established contact with two people who are involved with the procedure. One is Thit Yooyatmark who is the Senior Co-coordinator at the Samitivej Siracha Hospital, the other is a Surgeon at the Bangkok Pattaya International Hospital on Sukhumvit Road, Pattaya, who is prepared to give his time and effort in performing the operations. However, we must be realistic and can only count on his time up to a point where it does not interfere too much with the hospitals business routine.
To raise funds for this project, one of the things that the Rotary Club of Pattaya will do is to approach motion picture distributors in Bangkok and get them to hold a movie Premiere here in Pattaya.
The operations will be done at the rate of two per month in the first instance and reaching three per month at a later date. The motion Picture Premier will be planned to go ahead in about the middle of January 2007.
It is planned that the project will run for about 5 years.
We also ask individuals, clubs or districts to help us provide these operations for cataract patients by donating funds for one or more operations.
