Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) 2006

From 09 to 13October 2006 the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards are being held at the Thai Naval base at Sattahip. The awards are being organised by the Rotary Club of Plutaluang

On the morning of Monday 09 October President Niels and other club members were present at the Town-in-Town Hotel to see off our RYLA participants. The Rotary Club of Pattaya is sponsoring 5 young people, our members are sponsoring a further 6 young people to attend this years awards.
Some members went along to Sattahip to see our young people register and meet their fellow participants. President Niels said that he was very impressed with the good organization there and hoped that all participants would find the project helpful for their futures.

Each year, thousands of young people take part in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program worldwide. Young people ages 14-30 are chosen for their leadership potential to attend an all-expenses-paid seminar, camp, or workshop to discuss leadership skills and to learn those skills through practice. Rotary clubs and districts select participants and facilitate as well as the event curriculum.

RYLA aims to:

  • Demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth;
  • Provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders;
  • Encourage leadership of youth by youth; and
  • Recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities.

    RYLA was officially adopted by Rotary International in 1971, and is one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service. RYLA programs often lead to the formation or strengthening of Rotaract and Interact clubs. RYLA participants often go on to become Youth Exchange students or Ambassadorial Scholars.
