Peace Day & Painting Competition 23 February 2007

On International Peace Day 23 February 2006 the Rotary Club of Pattaya officaily unveiled their Rotary International Peace Monument in Pattaya. At that time they undertook to commemorate World Peace Day each year. On 23 February 2007 the Rotary Club of Pattaya announced the winners of a childrens painting competition which they had organised with assistance of Pattaya City Hall.

The theme for the competition was Peace.

The winners were announced at 09.30 in the Gallery Opium on Thepprasit Road, Pattaya. Mayor of Pattaya, Niran Wattanasartsathorn officially presented awards to the winners of the Painting for Peace Contest.

Judging of the competition entires was extremely difficult due to the very high standard of the entries. All the entries were judged by a panel comprising of art experts and members of the rotary Club of Pattaya.

Attending the ceremony was President Niels and many members of Rotary Club of Pattaya. There were also some of the school students from the Pattaya area who had submitted entries to the competition.

The winner of the contest was Pongsathone Chalermsab from Banglamung School and received 3,000 Baht along with an impressive certificate from the Rotary Club of Pattaya.
Second place was given to Watcharachai Benjamapinyo from Aksorn Suksa School who received 2,000 Baht along with a certificate.
Several students were also presented with Merit Awards and each received 1,000 Baht and a certificate.

The school of the contest winner, Banglamung School was also presented with art materials to the value of 5,000 Baht.

At the presentation, Former District Governor of District 3340, Jin Srigasigorn presented a King Rama V statue to Mayor Niran and to Mr. Alan Kirkland-Roath, the owner of the Gallery Opium.

After the presentation at the Gallery Opium, the delegation moved to Pratamnak Hill where paper birds that had been skillfully crafted origami style were handed to the Students, Rotary Members and Guests to write their personal messages on and place them in the nearby trees in a special ceremony at the Rotary International Peace Monument.
