Nings first outing 15 March 2007

On 15th March at 10 am, Rotarians Des Russell, Theo Hitz and John Blair from the Rotary Club of Pattaya, gave assistance to the family of Khun Kanjana Wichit (Ning), aged 37 years, who is a disabled person residing at Ban Bueng District, Chonburi, and is from an extremely poor family.

The Rotary Club of Pattaya has already showed support to this woman by donating a wheelchair to her, from their “Wheelchair Distribution Project”.

Ning is extremely handicapped and had never been out of her house area. Rotarian John Blair heard that her wish was to feel the cool air and see the ocean for the first time. Therefore, with clever planning on the 14th March he and fellow Rotarians made a surprise visit to Ning and made her wish come true. They borrowed a mini-bus and driver from the Pattaya Redemptorist Center and took her to Sriracha where they all had a seafood lunch and then sightseeing at Koh Loy near Sriracha where the lady was “over the moon” with joy at seeing the sea for the first time ever.

Later the group headed for Pattaya. Ning was accommodated at the Redemptorist Centre overnight where they provide special facilities for the disabled. The next day they all visited Bali Hai Pier, Pattaya where again Ning had the chance to feel the sea breeze and she was delighted. Later they took her shopping at Foodland Supermarket so that she could select and buy the necessary groceries that she fancied for herself. Ning had never seen a supermarket before in her life.

One final surprise lay in wait for Ning. Whilst she was away the Rotarians had arranged for Rotarian Gerrard to construct a path and ramp at her home for going in and out of the house. This will now make her daily life much easier.

The activity that these Rotarians provided really shows the world how kindhearted some people are. Even though it was something small it meant so much for Ning who needs help from society. There are still many others like her that need help and support.
