Mabprachan school is located in the countryside east of Pattaya city and is in a serious state of disrepair. Much of the accommodation is virtually unusable, especially in the rainy season. The Thai government has also donated 500 baht per day to help pay for the schoolchildren’s lunches, although this is a help it is not a major help in rebuilding the school.
There are around 80 pupils with 3 teachers.
The school has received help and sponsorship in carrying out some renovations. Work that has been done recently includes building of a 260 meter perimeter wall, half of school roof replaced, new ceiling installed, ground floor raised by around 10” to alleviate problems in rainy season, kitchen rebuilding.
A major sponsor of the rebuilding project is The Marriott Resort and Spa under its Marriott Spirit To Serve programme. Other sponsors include various Pattaya Rotary Clubs – The Rotary Club of Pattaya, The Rotary Club of Taksin-Pattaya (a key sponsor), The Rotary Club of Pattaya Marina, The Rotary Club of Jomtien Pattaya, Pattaya International Ladies Club, YWCA, Pattaya Today newspaper.
On 27th July 2005 the participating Rotary Clubs made a visit to the school to see for themselves what state it was in and the work which was required..The fence and kitchen rebuilding work had already started. 205,000 Baht which had been collected from several of the Pattaya Rotary Clubs towards the rebuilding of the school was handed over.
August 23rd 2005 saw a lunch being provided by The Marriot Resort and Spa. The various Rotary Clubs were also represented. District Governor Jin of District 3340 along with The Rotary Club of Pattaya President Boonsueb presented 45,000 Baht towards the rebuilding project.
District Governor Jin said that he was particularly proud that this excellent project wa happening in his year of office.
A Gala Charity Dinner was held on 3rd September 2005 at the Marriot Resort and Spa. The theme of the dinner was White and Blue and was attended by 200 diners. During the evening there was a spectacular fashion show with many prizes being handed out.
It was a magnificent event with The Marriott Resort and Spa showing a true ‘Spirit To Serve’.
All proceeds from the event were donated towards the school rebuilding project.
