District Assembly, Udon Thani 5-7 May, 2006

Several members of our club attended the 3340 District Assembly in Udon Thani 5-7 May 2006.

Rotarian Sergeant at Arms Ivar describes what he had experienced there.

The journey there and back was quite interesting with the mini bus being stopped 3 times by police for allegedly over speeding. However our District Governor Jin spoke with them on each occasion and after explaining that they were on the way to an important meeting the Police wished them well and sent them on their way.

Rtn Ivar says he has learnt a lot about how to be an effective club. He believes that we can be the best club in Pattaya due to us having the benefit of both Thai and Farang members who, by working together can make for a very effective club.

P.P. Niels explains that after attending this District Assembly he had seen a big change in the way that District meetings are now carried out. It is now far more beneficial for non Thai speakers as they are trying to include all attendees fully by offering full sessions in English. There are also excellent trainers with more participation and input from members.

A variety of topics and subjects were covered together with encouragement for sharing ideas. It was stressed that 2 way communication is a very important tool.

Year on year, the assembly was very similar but because the people attending and getting involved change each year, it makes for a very interesting and informative meeting

P.P. Niels came away from the meeting feeling very empowered.
