Rotary Club of Pattaya Dolphin

On Monday 23 July 2007 at 19.00 the Rotary Club of Pattaya held a ceremony to celebrate the return of their Rotary Dolphin. The Dolphin statue has been placed in the gardens of their ‘home’ at the Town In Town Hotel, Central Pattaya.

Currently one of the symbols of Pattaya City is the Dolphin. This association was originated by the Rotary Club of Pattaya when they presented a large monument of two dolphins to Pattaya City around 18 years ago.

The Dolphin monument was placed in the center of the traffic roundabout on North Pattaya Road. This location became known, and is still known, as the ‘Dolphin Roundabout’. However some years ago the traffic roundabout was remodeled to make traffic flow better and it was decided that our Dolphin monument was too large for the remodeled roundabout so a new smaller one was made and installed. Ours was placed into safe storage in the garden of one of our club members.

The Rotary club of Pattaya has been holding their weekly meetings at the Town in Town Hotel for many years so a few months ago the club asked the Town in Town hotel if we could erect the statue at the hotel. The Executive Director of the hotel, Khun Surapol Lertmetta agreed and even insisted in paying all of the costs as the hotel regarded it to be such a great honor to have our monument in their gardens.

The monument was moved from storage to the hotel gardens and erected on a plinth. An illuminated water feature was built around it and the Rotary Club of Pattaya proudly presented a Rotary emblem to place on it.

An official opening ceremony was held on Monday 23 July 2007 prior to the weekly meeting where many members of the Rotary Club of Pattaya were in attendance and enjoyed a champagne celebration.

The many International and Thai guests who visit the hotel will now see this great reminder of Rotary as well as the Rotary House plaque in the hotel reception.
